Background Information
M&A – Research and Development Policy is a premier consultancy firm that conducts a wide range of development research, consultancy services and tailored training. It is located in Lilongwe, Malawi but with a reach throughout the Southern African region. M&A was registered with the Government of Malawi in September 2013 as a research firm.
M&A has expertise in the fields of rural development, social protection, education, agricultural marketing and value chains, disability research, rural finance, poverty and health linkages, programme monitoring and evaluation, and impact evaluations.
Our Vision
Our mission is to conduct applied research that informs policy and practice to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development. We provide high-quality development research and policy advice, thereby bridging the gap between research and policy. We work to build partnerships in both the private and public sectors, in the developing countries to change lives and transform rural communities, through research and policy advice. We use our ingenuity and expertise to save our clients’ money and time, reduce risks, increase efficiency, maximise sustainable outcomes and advance best practice.
Development Service
M&A strongly believes in working with local communities to lift them out of poverty. It therefore operates M&A Development Service (MADS), a wing that undertakes development initiatives in the communities. The service is solely financed by part of the income generated from consultancies. M&A Development Service works in the fields of
- Sustainable Livelihoods;
- Education and Child Protection to promote children’s right to education;
- Economic Justice to promote the economic rights of smallholder farmers, particularly women; and
- Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
To implement these initiatives, MADS works with community members as community change agents to act as a link between programme staff and the community members. MADS is currently implementing the Mbang’ombe Area Development Programme, in Mbang’ombe Community in Lilongwe Rural, Malawi.
