MAULENDO APP PRIVACY POLICY

Welcome to Maulendo (“we”, “our”, “us”). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Maulendo mobile application.
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when registering on the app, including:
- Full name
- Email address
- Phone number
- National ID number
- Driver’s licence number (for drivers)
- Profile photos (optional)
Location data: Maulendo may collect precise and approximate location data from your device when you give location permission. For drivers, this may include live GPS coordinates, accuracy, heading, speed, and the time the location was updated while live location sharing is active for a ride. For travellers, location may be used to show your position on the live ride map and to calculate route or distance information. We do not collect location data unless the feature requiring location is used and permission has been granted.
We also automatically collect limited device information, app activity, diagnostics, and usage data to operate, protect, and improve our services.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Facilitate ride bookings between drivers and travellers
- Enable communication between ride participants
- Send booking confirmations and departure reminders
- Verify user identities for safety purposes
- Show driver live location to travellers with a confirmed ride
- Show travellers their own position on the ride map
- Calculate route, distance, and estimated travel information
- Detect whether a driver is online and actively sharing location
- Improve and optimise our app experience
- Prevent misuse, protect user safety, and comply with legal obligations
4. Sharing Your Information
We share limited information between drivers and travellers only when a booking is confirmed. This includes:
- Name and phone number for ride coordination
- Driver vehicle and trip details needed for the booking
- Driver live location while location sharing is active for the ride
Traveller location is used on the traveller’s device for map and route features and is not shared with other users as a live traveller tracking service.
We use trusted service providers to operate Maulendo, including Firebase/Google Cloud for authentication, database, storage, cloud messaging, app security, and hosting infrastructure. Location may also be processed by map, tile, and routing services when map or route features are used. Payment information may be processed by payment providers when you choose an in-app payment method. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services to Maulendo.
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information with law enforcement if required by law.
5. Location Permissions and Controls
Maulendo requests location permission only for app features that need it. Drivers can start and stop live location sharing from the app. When a driver stops sharing, goes offline, or when a ride is completed or cancelled, Maulendo hides or clears live driver coordinates where supported by the app workflow.
You can deny location permission, turn off location services, or change location permission at any time in your device settings. Some features, such as live driver tracking, showing your current position on the map, or route calculations, may not work without location permission.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal information. Your data is stored securely on Firebase (Google Cloud) servers with encryption at rest and in transit. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services, resolve disputes, maintain safety records, and comply with legal obligations. Live driver location is intended to be temporary and used for active ride tracking. When location sharing ends, the app marks the driver offline and may clear or delete live coordinates from the live location record.
